One of the most anticipated off-screen activities at the Silent Film Festival takes place on the Castro's lovely mezzanine. Throughout the festival, Books Inc. sets up temporary shop on the balcony level with an enticing selection of titles and SFSFF hosts book signings. So far, we've signed up an illustrious group of authors, including Kevin Brownlow with his seminal The Parade's Gone By, and Laura Ackley with her exquisitely illustrated San Francisco's Jewel City. Also signing: Weihong Bao with Fiery Cinema; David Pierce with The Dawn of Technicolor; John Bengtson with Silent Visions, Silent Echoes, and Silent Traces; Bryony Dixon with 100 Silent Films; William Wellman Jr. with Wild Bill Wellman. More author signings, yet to be confirmed! Watch our website. A reminder: SF International Film Festival starts today! Don't miss Lenny Borger presenting the rare French silent masterpiece, Monte-Cristo (5/3), and Guy Maddin's new film, The Forbidden Room (4/25). Rumor has it that director Maddin will be at the screening. Also not to be missed, Kronos Quartet Beyond Zero: 1914-1918 (5/6). We want to alert all our subscribers about a very special event happening in Rochester, New York at the George Eastman House, May 1-3. The Nitrate Picture Show, the chance to see vintage 35mm nitrate prints--a rare and wonderful opportunity! A Festival Pass will get you into all programs at our 20th anniversary festival at a substantial saving! Also, all tickets and passes can be purchased online at our website with absolutely NO ticket processing fees! SAN FRANCISCO SILENT FILM FESTIVAL |
