Australian film festival The Good Dog! International Film Festival has announced its competition winning films and screenplays including a U.S. film starring Zachary Quinto of Star Trek fame. All winners received cash prizes. Awards were presented in 25 categories.
“Best in Show” awards went to Australian film “Dingo - Wild Dog at War” narrated by ‘Farmer Dave’ Graham, German film ‘My Happy End” and US film “Wolf Dog Tales”. Audience Choice awards went to Australian short film “A Walk in the Park” and U.S film “Dog Eat Dog” starring Zachary Quinto. Best feature screenplay award went to Victoria Wharfe McIntyre for ‘Horrie’s War’ and Best Feature documentary was “Always Faithful” by Harris Done. Done was director of photography for Stephen Spielberg on his Oscar winning film “Last Days”. A full list of award winners is located at www.gooddogff.com
Good Dog! Festival director Anny Slater said the standard of film entered this year was exceptional and included Oscar winning film makers from Germany and the US as well as other award-winning film makers from Ireland, England, Australia and Canada. Ms Slater expects 2014 submissions may top 2013 numbers as word of the festival gets out to international and local film makers. International film makers and dog lovers have seen the festival’s Facebook page swell in recent months to 50,000 subscribers.

Good Dog! is a film festival screening unique and engaging films that include a dog. The annual free open-air festival for dog and film lovers alike is held on Sydney Harbour, nestled in the historic suburb of Balmain. Screening only the purest bred short and feature length films from all over the world, contributors and films have included Oscar and BAFTA winning filmmakers, Charlie Chaplin classics and Zachary Quinto (Spock from Star Trek). The festival also offers a short story, short screenplay and feature screenplay competitions and in 2014 a TV series pilot competition.
Now in its third year, the 2014 festival will take place from the 4th – 7th September at Mort Bay Park, Balmain, Sydney. 2014 submissions will open in the first week of December 2013 and entry forms can be found at www.gooddogff.com
