Christina Aguilera, Ewan McGregor, Léa Seydoux casted in Scott Free’s sci-fi romance ZOE, by Drake Doremus

Christina Aguilera (Burlesque, ABC’s Nashville), Theo James (The Secret Scripture, Divergent series), Rashida Jones (The Social Network, Angie Tribeca) and Miranda Otto (The Lord of the Rings film franchise, Showtime’s Homeland) have joined Golden Globe® nominee Ewan McGregor (Beauty and the Beast, Fargo, Miles Ahead) and Léa Seydoux (Spectre, The Grand Budapest Hotel) in Scott Free’s sci-fi romance ZOE, to be directed by Drake Doremus (Like Crazy, Breath In), it was announced today by IM Global’s Founder and CEO Stuart Ford and President of Production Greg Shapiro.  Prolific independent entertainment studio IM Global is financing the film alongside China’s HLCG Entertainment.

 

Principal photography starts on location in Montreal on May 8.

 

The futuristic love story is being produced by Scott Free’s Kevin Walsh and Michael Pruss, Doremus and Robert George. Ridley Scott is executive producing.  Additional executive producers are Ford and Shapiro along with HLCG’s Li Li, Michelle Tong Zhou and Lawrence Bender.  IM Global is also handling international sales with UTA representing domestic rights.

 

Written by Rich Greenberg (The Beauty Inside), the story follows two colleagues (played by McGregor and Seydoux) at a revolutionary research lab who design technology to improve and perfect romantic relationships. As their work progresses, their discoveries become more profound than they could ever have imagined.  Matthew Gray Gubler (500 Days of Summer, Criminal Minds) also joins the cast in a supporting role.

 
Christina Aguilera is a six-time Grammy® award winning singer/songwriter.  She has appeared in the feature film Burlesque opposite Cher, Kristen Bell and Alan Cumming and the hit TV series Nashville.  

 

Theo James recently seen on the London stage in Sex with Strangers and on the big screen in Jim Sheridan's The Secret Scripture. His other film credits include the Divergent series starring Shailene Woodley and Kate Winslet, Franny opposite Richard Gere and Dakota Fanning, and War on Everyone with Alexander Skarsgård and Michael Pena.  James will next be seen in the starring role in the political thriller Backstabbing for Beginners opposite Ben Kingsley.

 

Rashida Jones’ film credits include David Fincher’s The Social Network, I Love You Man starring Paul Rudd and Jason Segel, and Celeste and Jesse Forever, which she co-wrote with Will McCormack, executive produced and starred in alongside Andy Samberg.  Jones can be currently seen on the third season of TBS’s Angie Tribeca created by Nancy and Steve Carell. Additional TV credits include NBC’s The Office and Parks and Recreation.  Jones co-created and executive produced the Netflix original documentary series Hot Girls Wanted: Turned On, which premiered earlier this month. Upcoming, Jones will executive produce TNT’s dramedy Claws with Will McCormack.

 

Miranda Otto can currently be seen on Fox’s 24: Legacy and recently starred on the fifth season of Showtime’s Golden Globe® winning and Emmy® nominated Homeland. Her film credits include Peter Jackson’s Lord of the Rings film franchise, War of the Worlds starring Tom Cruise, and she will next be seen in Annabelle: Creation which will be released by Warner Brothers in August.
 
Matthew Gray Gubler can currently be seen on the Emmy® nominated hit TV series Criminal Minds.  His film credits include 500 Days of Summer starring Zooey Deshanel and Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Wes Anderson’s The Life of Aquatic With Steve,Life After Beth starring Aubrey Plaza and Dane DeHaan, and Band of Robbers starring Kyle Gallner and Adam Nee.

 

James is repped by WME and Markham, Froggatt and Irwin. Aguilera is repped by CAA. Jones is repped by UTA and Otto is repped by Gersh, Management 360, and Shanahan Management. Gubler is repped by CAA.
