In Search of a Nation 2015 | Nepal, USA, Bhutan, India | 109 Minutes | Documentary/Biography/Drama Screening Date: Friday, September 22, 8 p.m. at the Melwood Screening Room Buy tickets here. Based on a true story of Bhutanese refugees, the Lhotshampas, this documentary portrays the real-life struggles faced by refugees around the world. The Lhotshampas lived in harmony with other ethnic groups in Bhutan until the xenophobic royal government abruptly started enforcing policies specifically targeting them. They were soon forced to leave their homes in search of a safe haven. |

Zer 2017 | Turkey | 110 Minutes | Adventure/Drama Screening Date: Saturday, September 23, 8:15 p.m. at the Harris Theater Buy tickets here. This Turkish film recounts the tragic Dersim Massacre and the individual struggle resulting from that event. Directed by Kazim Öz, Jan embarks on a journey to to find the story of his grandmother, a survivor of the Dersim Massacre. Jan’s journey from his home in New York City to Kurdistan explores the history of one’s cultural and historic origins. |
