The Red Carpet Gala Opening Night will once again set the scene for this year’s spectacular ten day international film festival. This will be a special night, truly in the spirit of celebration and love!

Slip into a glittering gown, your favourite cocktail dress or party shirt and join us on BBFF’s Red Carpet as we celebrate the start of ten days of screen magic at BBFF2017’s Gala Opening Night – considered by many to be Byron’s most glamorous party.

Keep your eye out for a well-known and loved Aussie star of the screen dressed in a local brand, thanks to Island Luxe and arriving in style courtesy of Bruce Lynton Automotive! Who could it be?!

Each year we hold a special Filmmakers’ Breakfast where Filmmakers are interviewed and stories are shared for ABC North Coast’s listeners over the best meal of the day.

This is your opportunity to get up close and personal with our filmmakers and VIPs – you’ll enjoy the stories behind the films as well a delicious breakfast served with a delicious coffee the multi-award-winning Byron Bay Coffee Company.

Stay for an hour or tune in for the whole event.

NCUBE8 VIRTUAL REALITY (VR) WORKSHOPS

2017 offers a unique opportunity for 3 artists to accelerate their understanding and practice in this medium at a 2 day Residential Intensive in Beautiful Bangalow.

There is still time to submit Expressions of Interests for artists who would like to be part of our incubation process in order to generate some form of VR experience, which evolves their existing artform. This opportunity will suit all kinds of Artists, Animators and Filmmakers. Luke Bubb from Moving Peaks and BBFF/GreenhouseFX|3D|VR’s Osvaldo C Alfaro – will share their knowledge, insight and tools with our Selected Artists.

Artists from outside of the area will be hosted in Bangalow for the nights of October 9, 10 and 11.

Along-side our established program of cutting-edge film content we offer Co_Lab_Create: a weekend of events, workshops and masterclasses specifically aimed at the growing Virtual Reality (VR)/ Augmented Reality (AR) sectors and the industries that have helped drive the creation of this medium – Venture Capital, Gaming, Film & VFX.

A networking, collaborative think-tank for Professionals seeking to unleash their creativity, grow their technical knowledge and the possibilities for Australasia’s AR/VR Industry. Co_Lab_Create provided for connections, skills and knowledge enhancement in the unique and beautiful setting of one of the world’s most famous beachside towns.

BBFF has a history of facilitating fresh collaborative and business partnerships and this is the spirit of Co_Lab_Create. Our intention to help grow a strong, stable and informed Australasian VR/AR community who value best practice and innovative ideas.

Once again in 2017 we will bring representatives from leading and emerging Australian and New Zealand VR/AR/VFX companies to the one place. Our 2016 International delegates list includes some of the world’s most dynamic companies in this field.

Music videos inspire collaboration, bring together creatives and provide a vital calling card for talented directors. 

Join some of the filmmakers and musicians behind 20 of the hottest music videos submitted to this year’s festival at a special screening at one of Byron’s iconic venues, the Byron Bay Brewery.

On the night, our 2017 Music Video Award will be presented to one of these videos to recognise the collaborative efforts of songwriters and directors.
