Voltage Pictures is beginning discussions with worldwide (excluding Italy) buyers on director Alice Filippi’s ('78: The Getaway) upcoming Italian romantic dramedy Out of my League, starring Giuseppe Maggio (“Baby”, Un fantastico via vai), Ludovica Francesconi and Eleonora Gaggero (Unique Brothers), it was announced today by CEO Nicolas Chartier and President and COO Jonathan Deckter.

Roberto Proia (Tell No One) wrote and produced for leading Italian production and distribution company Eagle Pictures, which will release the highly anticipated romantic comedy wide in Italy on October 21st, 2020. Out of My League will have its world premiere at the Alice nella città (Oct. 15th- 25th), the independent and parallel sidebar of the Rome Film Fest for the younger generations. Eagle’s Simone Bencini and Silvia Tomasello negotiated the deal with Jonathan Deckter on behalf of Voltage.

Marta (Ludovica Francesconi) may be an orphan, may be plain, may be affected by a lethal illness, yet she's the most positive teenager you've ever met. While her clock is ticking, she has a mission. She wants to have a boy fall for her. Not any boy: the most handsome of them all. And she may have found her match.

Voltage has recently emerged as an industry leader in the YA romance releasing space; After starring Hero Fiennes Tiffin and Josephine Langford, took over $70M worldwide in 2019 and its sequel, After We Collided looks set to replicate that success, having already taken over $35M from since it opened in select markets from September 2nd. Voltage sold out worldwide on the YA novel adaptation Words on Bathroom Walls, starring Charlie Plummer when it presented to buyers at the virtual Marche du Film, and also had great success with a similar story in I Feel Pretty starring Amy Schumer, which took nearly $100M worldwide in 2018.

This is a genre we know inside-out and are thrilled that Eagle have chosen to entrust us with this film,” said Nicholas Chartier, CEO at Voltage Pictures. “Italy has long been a creative center in Europe, producing films that truly set the standard for international cinema, and we can’t wait to present this to our partners who are looking for this type of elevated, international content that plays to young audiences.”

“Writer and Producer Roberto Proia has been telling me about this film since he wrote it, and after seeing the trailer and a few clips, I knew right away that this was perfect fit for our forward thinking global partners in the YA space,” added Deckter.

Out of My League is witty, sweet, edgy and speaks straight to that YA segment that Eagle has been catering to for so many years,” commented Tarak Ben Ammar, Chairman of Eagle Pictures. “It is the movie that as a distributor we would be looking for at a market if it wasn't already ours. And we are extremely proud to have found an A-list partner like Voltage that shares the same vision.”

After over 30 year as the leading Independent Distributor in Italy, Eagle Pictures has recently entered the content provider arena thanks to productions like the Patrick Dempsey starrer miniseries "The Truth About the Harry Quebert Affair" or Nathan Parker's "American Skin" which took home Best Film at the Venice FIlm Festival last year in the Sconfini sidebar.

Director Alice Filippi is a rising star in Italian cinema who became the go-to Italian assistant director for Academy Award-winning directors Ron Howard, on Inferno, and Sam Mendes, on Spectre. She most recently directed '78: The Getaway, which was nominated for Best Documentary at the David di Donatello Awards.

Giuseppe Maggio is the breakout star of Netflix’s ”Baby”, earning a legion of young female fans as ”Fiore”.
