The management of the “Istanbouli Theatre” and the “Tiro Association for Arts” announced the eighth session of the “Lebanon International Short Film Festival” for the extended period from 10 to 12 of April, at the Lebanese National Theatre in the city of Tyre, under the slogan "Cinema in the Face of Corruption."The festival includes 27 feature films, documentaries and cartoons from 13 participating countries, Colombia, Syria, Palestine, Egypt, the United Kingdom, the United States of America, Ghana, Belgium, North Macedonia, France, Iran, Belgium and Lebanon.
Within the official competition, films compete for awards: best feature film, best documentary, best motion picture, best actor, best actor and best cinematography.The jury of the festival includes Lebanese filmmaker Bahij Hahij, Palestinian filmmaker Najwa Najjar, Spanish filmmaker Ana Cendrero Alvarez and Lebanese filmmaker Walid Monnis.The festival supports local cinema and student films through cultural exchanges, training workshops, seminars, and discussions with directors after their film screenings.In this film event, the festival devotes considerable space to screen the films projects of students from different universities. The founder of the Lebanese National Theatre, actor and director Kassem Istanbouli, stressed in a statement on the goal of the event that it is necessary to "highlight the subject of oppression in countries where popular protests and revolutions are taking place." As well as,solidifying and consolidating the film movement in Southern Lebanon through the establishing mobile touring shows and setting up movie clubs in schools.
Tiro Association for Arts, led by youth and volunteers and founded by the founder of the “free Lebanese National Theater", actor and director Kassem Istanbouli, aims to create free and independent cultural spaces in Lebanon through artistic training for children and youth, rehabilitating cultural spaces, organizing festivals, activities and art exhibitions, and is based on organizing performances and cinematography, artistic and educational activities for children and youth, and to form networks with international festivals and open an opportunity for young filmmakers to present their films, and also introducing the audience to the history of cinema, local and international shows, the performances of the Istanbouli theatre group.
