Taking place online across Canada November 18 - December 10, 2022, the European Union Film Festival continues its mission to bring excellent contemporary European cinema to Canada.

The Canadian Film Institute (CFI), The Cinematheque in Vancouver, the European Union Film Festival of Toronto, the Delegation of the European Union to Canada, and the EU Member States are proud to present another online European Union Film Festival (EUFF) November 18 - December 10. Concurrent with in-person Festivals in Vancouver, Toronto, and Ottawa, 22 films from 22 EU Member States will be available to view on-demand across Canada.

“Building on the success of the last two virtual editions, our annual European Union Film Festival returns this year both in person and online across Canada. We are proud to present a thought-provoking programme of films from across the European Union,” said Dr. Melita Gabrič, Ambassador of the European Union to Canada. “Our thanks to the Canadian Film Institute in Ottawa, the European Union Film Festival in Toronto, The Cinematheque in Vancouver, the Embassies and Consulates of European Union Member States for making this cinematic adventure possible.”

"In the case of the 2022 EUFF, the word 'hybrid' means the best of both worlds! For those attending in-person screenings in the three presenting cities and for those across Canada who can sample the best of contemporary European Union cinema online, we at the Canadian Film Institute share with our presenting partners in Vancouver and Toronto both the thrill and the joy of offering this hybrid version of the EUFF to all Canadians," says Tom McSorley, Executive Director of the Canadian Film Institute.

“The Cinematheque in Vancouver is proud to join our national partners in co-presenting, for a third consecutive year, this virtual version of the European Union Film Festival. This year marks the 25th anniversary of the EUFF at The Cinematheque (itself celebrating 50 years), and while we are thrilled to have the in-person festival finally return to our cinema after a two-year hiatus, we are delighted to know that our Canada-wide online audience will continue to enjoy the riches of contemporary European cinema as well. Whether at home, in theatre, or some convenient combination of both, we look forward to welcoming you to this first-ever hybrid edition of the always-popular festival,” says Shaun Inouye, Artistic Director of The Cinematheque.

“When COVID 19 hit the world in 2019, Toronto’s EUFF, the Canadian Film Institute in Ottawa and The Cinematheque in Vancouver joined forces along with EU Delegations from the three cities to present a virtual festival. As this festival successfully grows, EUFF will continue to offer highly curated content to all Canadians while remaining committed to bringing the Toronto film community together. The year 2022 marks the festival’s 18th and first-ever hybrid edition we are proud to be part of,” says Jérémie Abessira, Executive Director of European Union Film Festival Toronto

Online EUFF runs November 18 - December 9, with one film being released each day and available to view for 48 hours. Tickets are $12. A 5-Film Pack is $50. A full EUFF Online Pass is $100. All available at euffonline.ca.

European Union Film Festivals also take place in November through December at The Cinematheque in Vancouver, the European Union Film Festival in Toronto, and the CFI’s European Union Film Festival in Ottawa. More information is available through their respective websites.
