ROMCOM KING RICHARD CURTIS DIRECTS SHORT FILM
JOINS “ZERO POVERTY 2030” MOVEMENT
The king of romantic comedies, Richard Curtis (award-winning writer/director of Love Actually, Notting Hill, Bridget Jones’s Diary), has officially joined the movement to end extreme poverty by 2030. As reported in Variety, The Global Poverty Project has just released a new, short video directed by Richard that highlights the progress made toward ending extreme poverty.
Here’s the film:
Viewers got a sneak peak of the film earlier this month at #EndPoverty2030, an event taking place during the IMF/World Bank Group Spring Meetings in Washington, D.C. featuring millennials who are taking on critical issues—from entrepreneurship to education to gender equality—to ending extreme poverty.
As you may be aware, Richard recently folded up his director’s chair but decided to lend his screenwriting and directing skills to the cause. Would you be interested in a piece highlighting the video and Richard’s participation in the movement?
Richard Curtis gave the following comment on his involvement in Zero Poverty 2030 campaign:
"It's been a great pleasure to work with The Global Poverty Project on making this Heroes Beside You film. They are an organisation I admire enormously. I think we both feel that 2015 will be a hugely important year when the world could commit to ending poverty by 2030 in the new UN Sustainable Development Goals - and anything I can do to help people campaign and petition their leaders to make those goals more potent and ambitious, I'm keen to do. The purpose of the film is to point out that the dreams and ideals of our greatest heroes were always connected to the end of the immense injustice of extreme poverty - and that when we send a message to our leaders, or do an act of protest, it's in the tradition of Gandhi, it's following the orders of Martin Luther King, it's trying to fulfil the dream of Nelson Mandela – ‘Poverty is not natural - it is man-made and it can be overcome and eradicated by the actions of human beings.’”
GPP hopes viewers will share the video, sign the petition, and encourage their organizations, businesses, schools, or groups to join, promote or lead the Zero Poverty 2030 campaign in their communities and countries.
