Special Screening of KILL BILL: Vol. 1 Presentation of Filmmaker Award

Actress Uma Thurman will visit the Zurich Film Festival on Saturday 24.09.16 to present at the Arena Cinemas Quentin Tarantino’s cult classic KILL BILL: VOL. 1, a film in which she plays the lead role. She will remain to discuss her work and films following the screening. Thurman will also present the CHF 100’000 Filmmaker Award during the grand IWC Gala on Saturday evening.

Born in 1970, Uma Thurman is a highly sought after actress best known for her roles in films such as Quentin Tarantino’s PULP FICTION (1994) and the KILL BILL franchise (2003/2004). She received an Academy Award nomination for her role in PULP FICTION and a Golden Globe nomination for her role in KILL BILL. She previously starred in Stephen Frears’ DANGEROUS LIAISONS (1988) and Philip Kaufman’s HENRY & JUNE (1990).

KILL BILL: VOL. 1 is the first part of an action film that was not initially planned as a two-part film series. The first cut version, however, was four hours long, which led Tarantino to split the film into two parts. While the first film focuses heavily on martial art scenes set against an eastern backdrop, the second film primarily plays with elements of the Spaghetti Western. The theme of both films is revenge.

Five Swiss Film Projects Nominated

Uma Thurman will present the second Filmmaker Award during the IWC Gala on Saturday evening. The five Swiss film projects nominated for the accolade are LASST DIE ALTEN STERBEN from Juri Steinhart, PAPA MOLL from Manuel Flurin Hendry, FORTUNA from Germinal Roaux, DAS BLUE NOTE PROJEKT from Sophie Huber and BEYOND THE BOLEX from Alyssa Bolsey.

The ‘Association for the Promotion of Film in Switzerland’ was initiated in 2015 by the CEO of IWC Schaffhausen Georges Kern, the ZFF Co-Directors Nadja Schildknecht and Karl Spoerri, the director Marc Forster and the CEO of Ringier Marc Walder. Eligible to enter are Swiss filmmakers whose feature or documentary film projects (min. 60 minutes duration) are in need of top level or post-production funding.
