Following the huge success of the last two events, diversity champions TriForce Creative Network are holding their third WriterSlam competition later this year. The event, which attracts over 1000 entries, will take place at St James’s Theatre on Monday 14th November.
The TCN have been working for over a decade on increasing diversity both on screen and behind the camera with a focus on generating significant and lasting improvement within the industry.
Budding TV drama writers are invited to submit a synopsis and 10-15 pages of script to WriterSlam. Five finalists will be chosen by the TCN to take part in a writer’s workshop, with the final script extracts performed for an audience of leading industry figures on 14th November. Previous WriterSlam participants have enjoyed great success including paid development commissions with ITV, Tiger Aspect and BBC Radio 4, mentoring placements with ITV, Tiger Aspect, Hat Trick and TriForce Productions, and one writer has been commissioned to write an episode of Casualty.
The winning writer of this year’s event will receive a paid development commission from TriForce Productions, culminating in an industry table read in Spring 2017 supported by Sky Drama.
The runner up will receive a guaranteed place on the BBC’s Introduction to Continuing Drama workshop – their invite only workshop for writers hoping to write for the BBC’s award winning continuing dramas; Holby City, Casualty, Doctors and Eastenders. One of last year’s WriterSlam winners, Tom Mackay, has gone on to write for BBC’s Casualty.
All five finalists will have their work showcased in front of an industry panel, which will include representatives from the BBC, Channel 4, Sky and TriForce Productions.
Previous finalist Lee Coan said “WriterSlam really felt like a last chance saloon for me to get my work noticed. It has been a very busy year since taking part. On top of working with ITV, I acquired a top agent and have been put in touch with some fantastic independent production companies. Doors opened, that were previously very much locked!”
Submissions are open from Monday 19th September until Sunday 9th October. To find out more and for details on how to submit, go to http://thetcn.com/writerslam/
TriForce also runs an acclaimed and established Short Film Festival to support the careers of film directors, producers, below the line talent and screenwriters working in the short independent film sector and to increase diversity and collaboration in short film production. Its aim is to find and acknowledge innovative storytelling and connect filmmakers and industry professionals.
